Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach stated.

“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Response

Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period such as this with performances so bad.”

He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
