Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
