Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a hero that is truly a piece of poop attempting to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across 150 stages, you'll face tough enemies and visit a shop to buy outfits for your poop character.

Time your actions precisely, since one mistake requires restarting the level. Jump using floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, cross crumbling ledges, and interact with buttons to open secret routes. Earn currency and use them on tougher levels in which things intensifies.

Visually, the demo features eye-catching stages and an amazing soundtrack. The simple graphics of moving abstract forms may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to name previous releases where you play as a dung character, video games have long featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, including taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game set to debut on Steam in the fall.
