Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 victories at 21 various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, took control to create a decider.

He defended four early-game break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
